Abstract

The Bend-LaPine School Board decided to keep five books challenged by Dorothy Oak, coalition director for the Deschutes County branch of the Oregon Citizens Alliance, on school shelves. Oak challenged the books based on her belief they promoted homosexuality. Some parents voiced support for the board's decision, saying it is up to them to decide what their children read.
