Abstract

President Eisenhower stated he agrees Communist books should be removed from overseas U.S. libraries and that in some cases it is okay that they are burned. He stated that it was ridiculous for the government to spend its own money on books that preach its overthrow, and that we should not be a party to our own demise. He stated that while he earlier in the week condemned book burning within the U.S., he agreed with Senator Joe McCarthy that removing Communist works from U.S. libraries overseas was necessary.
