Abstract

Two parents requested that "To Take a Dare" be removed from the Crook County Middle School library because it contained profanity. A committee appointed by the school board decided, on a four to one vote that the language and content of the book were appropriate for the book's content and the age of the reader. The librarian listed five points on why the book had been selected for their library. The article also mentions "Restles Dead: Ghostly Tales from around the World" in Ochoco Elementary School Library as being challenged. The person filing the complaint thought it material with no literary value for school use and preoccupied with the occult. The second book's status had not been resolved at the time the article was published.
