Abstract

The Oregon Library Association supports intellectual freedom as a cornerstone of American libraries, and is concerned about the potential impact of Ballot Measure 9. If Measure 9 passes, librarians fear the Oregon Citizens Alliance would demand the removal of books by or about homosexuals from library shelves. Deborah L. Jacobs, O.L.A. president, argues that evaluating literature on the basis of a writer’s sexual orientation is dangerous.
