Library group rallies against Measure 9
Sara Charlton, Oregon Library Association
“Rally for the right to read” is the theme of a protest against censorship planned for October 24th in Portland. If passed, Measure 9 would amend the state constitution, prohibiting state and local government agencies from using funds or property to encourage homosexuality. Oregon Library Association members fear that libraries will be forced to remove materials by homosexual authors or about homosexual issues, such as AIDS, from their shelves.
