Abstract

The writer argues that by exposing children and young adults to difficult and disturbing issues in age-appropriate materials, we help them develop emotionally and morally. She is responding to objections to the books "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi and "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie.
