The low-back is a common site of injury in golfers. Why golfers are susceptible to back injuries has not been extensively studied. The purpose of this study was to compare right and left isokinetic and isometric trunk rotation torque values between golfers and non-golfers. Thirty-six male subjects from two groups, golfers (n=18) and non-golfer controls (n=18), were tested on a Cybex Torso Rotation (TR) unit isometrically and at five different isokinetic speeds. Results demonstrated no significant differences between golfers and controls on all measures. The findings of this study indicate further studies on trunk strength in golfers need to examine other characteristics of trunk function, specifically trunk extension strength and endurance.
