This is a compendium of empirical findings, clinical and personal experience, and theoretical contributions to the literature on short-term outpatient psychotherapy groups. Characteristics of these. groups and the effects of .a time limit, selection criteria, pre-group preparation, stages of group development, curative factors, and group leadership are discussed. Two models of short-term group therapy are included. Case material from three groups co-led by the author illustrate short-term group psychotherapy from an existential/humanistic perspective.
