Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the literature on graduate training and continuing education of professional psychologists in the treatment of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) clients. Current research is reviewed and presented in chronological order. Despite professional recommendations and guidelines, most professional psychologists have not received adequate training in LGB issues and therefore do not feel competent to treat LGB persons effectively. This thesis concludes with a synthesis of the literature, and recommendations for educating professional psychologists in this area.
