The eating disorder literature has begun to include teasing as a potential factor in the development of eating disorders and body image dissatisfaction: In this paper, the literature on teasing and its relationship to body image dissatisfaction and the development of eating disorders is reviewed. Definitions of teasing and its components are examined. Emotional and behavioral consequences of teasing, including gender differences, are explored. The literature linking teasing and eating disorders is reviewed . and hypotheses as to the connection between teasing and eating disorders ar~ made using developmental models of eating disorders. Suggestions for further study are made.
