Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the physical environment of the classroom and how it affects learning. The study carefully describes one classroom and the observations of how the desk arrangement and wall displays are useful for the students and teacher. It also includes responses to an interview with the teacher about the reasons for the desk arrangement and wall displays, as well as a survey about the desk arrangement and wall displays filled out by the students.

A review of the research literature indicates that the physical environment can have an impact on learning. The data that was collected supported some of the ideas in the literature review. The arrangements of the desks and the wall displays were found to be important for student learning
