Abstract

The intent of this paper is to investigate the importance of interpersonal relationships within the classroom. I observed the effects that a specific social skills program might have on such relationships as well as the entire classroom climate. I also examined the elements which contribute to an effective system of classroom management, with a strong focus on interactive skills. More specifically, I looked at the role which a particular program, the Sharing Circle, plays in contributing to an effective system of classroom management.

My principle research method was participant - observation within a second/third grade blended classroom for four and a half months. I also administered questionnaires and gave informal interviews and surveys. The resulting research reveals the importance and benefits of social skills programs within the classroom.
