Abstract

Curriculum integration has the potential to be an important part of the classroom. Previous research indicates that when practiced effectively, curriculum integration facilitates students' learning by relating subject matter to students in a personal way, it allows the students to make connections across the different disciplines, and it enables a better understanding of the material being learned. Curriculum integration also encourages teachers to mentor each other, offer support in unfamiliar subject matter, and it provides a more positive learning environment. Results of this study provided further support for these fmdings . Previous research suggests that when curriculum integration is not practiced effectively, it can cause confusion among the students. If the students are not able to make connections between what they are learning and their real life experiences, they are less likely to fully comprehend the material presented to them. Results of this study supported these conclusions and provided data indicating that a lack of integration within the curriculum can have a negative impact on the teachers involved as well.
