One hundred years ago the dream of organization became a reality, and since that time Oregon educators have worked diligently, with no thought of personal gain or glory, toward professional growth of teachers through professional organization. The least we can do to say thank you for a job well done, is to perpetuate their memory with a written record of their accomplishments. Thus the history will bring together into one body of information the record of professional organization, and from these facts the thesis of the professionalization of teaching in the state will be developed. Finally, the hope is expressed that such a history will memorialize the men and women who have given, and are giving, ceaseless effort to achieve the very maximum of educational opportunity in Oregon through the professional organization of professionally trained teachers.
