Abstract

The purposes and objectives of this thesis are: 1) To create two original compositions for band. 2) To orchestrate each part within the capabilities of the individuals in a class A band. 3) To have as a goal in each composition a strong rhythmic pattern. 4) To teach the student various types of tonguing, slurring and phrasing. 5) To acquaint the student with various keys that are ordinarily not found in most musical works written for high school students. 6) To give each member of the band an opportunity to fit his part into the whole. 7) To give enjoyment to the performers and to those for whom the music is performed.
