Abstract

This is the story of Billy Budd. Billy Budd is one of many at-risk students at Delta High School. I chose to investigate how various teaching styles affect one particular student's interest in school. I shadowed a student, whom I will refer to as Billy Budd, in four different educational settings: during a field trip, two lab activities, and a language arts classroom. During my observation, I identified teaching styles that provided supportive environments for Billy's education. I examined the relationship between the activities that Billy's teachers provided and Billy's level of engagement in that teacher's class.
