Book removed from library "racist, dated and trite"
The Clatskanie Chief
Her father's daughter by Jean Stratton Porter
Sally Abeyta; Clatskanie library
Clatskanie Library removed "Her Father's Daughter" from their shelves after the book was challenged. Written in the 1930s, it contained racial remarks about a Japanese character in the story. The librarian stated she regularly 'weeds' dated and rarely circulated books and this would have been weeded without the challenge. Other Jean Stratton Porter books remain on their shelves.
