Banned books exhibit depicts fear, ignorance
Umpqua Free Press (Myrtle Creek)
In this guest editorial from a former South Umpqua school board member, the author takes a look at books that have recently been challenged and banned in libraries all across the country. The author mentions a banned books exhibit in Boise Idaho that has about a dozen books on display that showcase the fear and ignorance of those who wanted them banned. The author then talks about three examples of books that were challenged this past year for various reasons. The article then ends with examples of censorship from around the world and how we have no right to infringe on someone’s right to read.
