The Ashland School Board was presented with a petition signed by 137 community members who are concerned about the Impressions textbook series. The board themselves cannot do anything though because the superintendent has already adopted the books for use. Parents must now file a formal complaint if they wish to pursue this farther. Parents are concerned about stories that contain witchcraft and sorcery and are asking the board not to implement the books until other texts are tested. Alicia Lorrange said in a review of the books that there were only a handful of stories that were good, while the rest were below reading level. Sheila Drescher a parent and bookstore owner says that the books are fine and that Macbeth is in schools so don’t remove it because it has three witches.
