Defend our libraries from pressure groups
Springfield voters approved a charter amendment, sponsored by the Oregon Citizens Alliance, to prohibit the promotion of homosexuality. Supporters of the measure intended to deny homosexuals special rights as a protected class but now want to examine library books for homosexual content and messages. Opponents of the measure argue that the traditional purpose of public libraries is to provide a wide variety of materials. Oregonians want the freedom to read without instructions from the government.
