The purpose of this paper was to determine if hydrogel lenses ability to transmit the visible spectrum of light is altered during a normal wearing course . Seven subjects (14 eyes) were fit with Coopervision permaflex (74% water) contact lenses. The subjects were instructed to wear the lenses on a daily basis for three months. The transmission spectrum of the subjects lenses was then compared (after 3 months) to that of a control lens of the same power and base curve for eleven wavelengths ranging from 200-800nm. The authors found a significant change at the .05 level (T-test) for all eleven wavelengths considered.
