Current literature on anger control interventions for children and adolescents broadly indicates that anger control interventions have been successful at improving children's self-perception of anger control, self-esteem, and positive behaviors; however, interventions have not been successful in maintaining decreases in aggressive behaviors. Most of this research has been conducted with adolescents and male children in either an inpatient or classroom setting. The literature has suggested that anger management interventions can be modified for younger age groups. The following is a review of the current literature and proposal of an anger management group intervention for children ages 7-10 that can be utilized in a general clinic setting. Program considerations, pretreatment issues, and assessment methods are discussed; a model for evaluating the intervention is offered, followed by a treatment manual and children's workbook for the group intervention. The intervention methods utilized within the group intervention are physiological arousal management, cognitive restructuring, problem-solving skills training, and parent management training.
