Program Evaluation of LifeWorks Mental Health Response Team

14 December 2012

Abstract

Critical incident teams have been established to meet the needs of both law enforcement and the mental health community. The traditional CIT approach employs specially trained police officers that respond to calls that involve people suspected of having mental illness. The Co-responder model of CIT employs both a mental health counselor and a police officer that respond to these calls. In this study, qualitative interviews were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a Co-response team comprised of Lifeworks Northwest and Washington County Sheriff Department. The main themes that emerged were Roles and relationships within the team, Service delivery, and Collaborative community relationships. The themes were evaluated for consistency with existing literature and recommendations were given.
