LG board renews middle school book

15 December 1988

Abstract

Despite protests from the objectors, the La Grande School Board decided to keep "Space Station, Seventh Grade" by Jerry Spinelli in the Middle School Library. Parents objected to the profanity and immoral values expressed in the work. Pat Atkinson, their media specialist, stated the book dealt with problems of seventh graders. A member of the Board remarked the library is a place that provides a variety of ideas and suggests that parents discuss books with their children to help them understand what the parents find objectionable and why.
