The Annual Report of the Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse summarized the 54 written challenges made in Oregon during the school year that ended June 30, 1991. The most frequent objections to public and school library materials were graphic sex, violence and occult themes. Seven materials were ordered removed from library shelves by school officials or review committees, including a book and library tape in the Eugene School District. Juvenile access to adult materials was challenged at the Multnomah County Library, but the library director reaffirmed the library’s commitment to open access for all ages.
