Novel about girl growing up in Iran ignites high emotions at school board meeting

19 September 2014

Abstract

The book "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi was discussed at the Three Rivers School District board meeting because of parents' complaints that students should not be allowed to read it without parental approval. The book contains coarse language and depicts torture. No action was taken at the meeting; a board member suggested parents request a formal review of the book.
