In the cockpit of a fighter jet aircraft, pilots are subject to various visual stimuli. Complex control panels, as well as outside visual stimuli produced when flying at high speeds provide an environment for these pilots which require efficient visual integration and processing.
In this thesis project we observed and evaluated responses of fighter pilots performing three different visual tasks, contrast sensitivity, dynamic visual acuity, and visual motor reaction time, and compared these results to those of a population composed of optometry students. (The null hypothesis being that the pilots will perform at a superior level as compared to the students.)
