Even unpopular ideas deserve spot in library

5 July 1993

Abstract

The author of this editorial promotes libraries as "bastions of free expression" in response to Dorothy Oak's challenges to 17 books that purportedly encourage homosexuality. Oak, a leader of the Oregon Citizen's Alliance, challenged the books at the Deschutes County Library and Bend High School Library. Library director at the Deschutes County Library, Ralph Delamarter, decided to retain the books.
