Reasons for discontinuance by pre-physical therapy students

1 May 1989

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the reasons for discontinuance by pre-physical therapy (pre-PT) students at Pacific University (P.U.) and report the problems students had encountered. Students at P.U. who were interested in pre-PT, between the fall 1986 and the fall 1989, answered biographical questionnaires which provided information for a descriptive study. ANOVA, chi-squared values, and frequency distributions were calculated and it was found that there was a relationship between students whose original major was pre-PT and those who had discontinued (p < .05). An implication from this study was that pre-PT students at P.U. may benefit from specific information early in their college career to avoid discontinuance secondary to unexpected reasons.
