Independent study projects for ninth grade global literature students

1 June 1997

Abstract

The Transworld High School first introduced independent study for credit as a way to maintain its academic program despite cuts in staff and budget. Though all requirements are completed as independent study outside the classroom, ninth grade projects are designed to enrich the curriculum of the three other core classes: Global Geography, Cultural Aesthetics, and Global Literature. This paper examines the problems that students can encounter when engaged in independent study and researches various sources of support that can affect successful completion of the projects.
