Assessing Depression in Graduate Students: A Validation Study on the Goldberg Depression Scale

25 July 2008

Abstract

The current study investigated the reliability and construct validity of the Goldberg Depression Scale in a graduate student population. A sample of 3 5 graduate students completed the Goldberg Depression Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory-II, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. The internal consistency reliability of the Goldberg Depression Scale was high (.932). The convergent and discriminant validity of the Goldberg Depression Scale was also supported (correlation coefficients .876 and .741, respectively). Implications for use of the Goldberg Depression Scale are discussed.
