Waking Up

1 January 1984

Abstract

Electroformed copper, cast bronze, lead, oak

10" x 10" x 12"

The head rocks back and forth when the viewer touches it, causing the eyes to open and close. When open, the eyes reveal another set of eyes (cast from life) that are still closed, alluding to the notion that it is really much more comfortable to sleep while the mask keeps up the illusion of wakefulness.
