Silverton keeps curriculum

13 June 1990

Abstract

The Silverton School Board will be keeping the curriculum Positive Action after a recommendation by a committee formed to look at the material. The curriculum was challenged earlier in the year when a parent complained that the program went against the families religious beliefs. In addition to keeping the curriculum, the school board also made four additions to the program. A page will be included with each teachers handbook that states that student’s values need to be developed around family, teachers will be cautioned in using any religious materials, a procedure will be developed for parents to withdraw their child from the program, and parents will be informed at the beginning of the year about the program and are invited to review the materials.
