Mindfulness meditation has shown promise as a potentially effective treatment for a wide variety of health problems in adults, but there is currently little empirical research regarding the use of mindfulness with school-age children. In this paper, I review several therapeutic interventions that are similar to or contain aspects of mindfulness and that have been used effectively with children. By extension, such research suggests that mindfulness techniques have the potential to be applied and practiced successfully by school-age children. Additionally, a discussion concerning the possible benefits of mindfulness in the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Inattentive type, is presented. School-age children may be well equipped to practice mindfulness, and further research is supported and encouraged.
