Cross Education: The potential clinical application of contralateral exercise to elicit strength gains

23 May 2009

Abstract

Incorporating contralateral exercise training into strength training regimes and home exercise programs of patients who are unable to or restricted from taking part in traditional strength training may provide beneficial improvements of the impaired limb and can improve or maintain the function of the non-involved limb. The studies reviewed in this paper showed a 21.4% average increase in strength in the untrained limb.
