Schools often give in to outside pressure

Abstract

Opinion: Parental challenge for curriculum and school event content is to be expected. The response is often the most expedient or the least politically offensive because answering the parent's concerns is time consuming and requires diplomacy. The alternative, to train faculty and administrators to present controversial materials with a level of sensitivity, is even more difficult. The potential for occasional flare ups is inherent as long as government runs public schools.
