The purpose of this study was to compare the trigger point method to the parallel-to-the-muscle fibers method of applying a vapocoolant (Flourimethane) to determine which method was more effective in increasing range of motion (ROM). Forty-six volunteer subjects were randomly assigned to the two experimental groups. Range of motion measurements were taken before and immediately after treatment for each group. The ROMs used were cervical extension, rotation, and lateral side bending. The stretch and spray technique of vapocoolant treatment served as the basic technique for both groups. T-tests were used to compare the differences in range of the two methods and to compare the before and after treatment measurements within each group. There were no significant findings in the tests comparing the two methods. There were also no significant difference in the t-tests comparing the before and after treatment measurements of the trigger point method since only two (.003 and .004) out of the five p values were less than the significant .05 level of probability.
