The author of this article talks about Banned Books Week and whether any of the books that were removed from library shelves are actually banned. It is stated that 25 books and one music tape were challenged this year (1990). Of these materials only two books were taken off of the shelves, one for an incestuous relationship, and the other for violence. The author states that both of these books are available from local bookstores and so questions that label of ‘banned’. The author finishes by saying that banning books is terrible but that it doesn’t seem to be happening in Oregon.
