16 July 1996

Abstract

Mental health services in a managed care setting are described and the incongruence between traditional psychology training and the clinical realities of managed care is examined. Problems due to insufficient training of clinicians are delineated along with suggestions for remediation of these problems. Specific training areas based on published literature are suggested. These include: brief therapy; assessment; and comprehension of the health care system. A graduate training curriculum based ( ) on these training areas is proposed and suggestions for implementation are made.
