Pickets protest book on witches

20 March 1986

Four protesters picketed the Albany Public Library over the decision to keep the book ‘Witches’ on the libraries shelves. Tammy Bridges who organized the event said that they are trying to keep people from reading the book. Bridges said that little kids can’t be grabbing these kinds of books off of the shelves. Library director Wayne Suggs said he knew how many books the library had on the subject but that there were all kept in the adult section of the library. While kids are allowed all throughout the library, they can only check out adult materials with a parents’ permission. Within twenty minutes the protesters where already being met with negative comments from passerby and one woman shouted that the library is a resource of books, and witches are in that resource.
