Library refuses to ban book on witches

19 March 1986

The Albany Library Board voted to reject a request to remove the book “Witches” by Colin Wilson from the library shelves. Jerry A. Stutzman put in a request for the book to be removed from the library. He says that he read a few passages and was convinced that it contained material that is satanic in nature. Library director Wayne Suggs says that the book is pretty much a history of witches and witchcraft from early times. Various board members reviewed the book and said that while the book was not particularly well written, it doesn’t teach satanic rituals. Sutzman was not surprised by the boards decision to keep the book.
