In most cases, libraries keep challenged material open

18 September 1996

Abstract

The state librarian provides a summary of the year’s challenges in libraries around Oregon. In 1996 there were nineteen book challenges, five video challenges, four periodical challenges, and two recording challenges. Most libraries choose to keep access open, only one library restricted access to children under sixteen. Most complaints dealt with sexual content and graphic language. Other complaints dealt with scary or violent content.
