The Grants Pass School Board voted unanimously to postpone a decision on whether to allow "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" to be part of high school curriculum so board members could read the book. The district's curriculum council had already rejected the book. The meeting was planned for June 24th. The book has been targeted for sexual content and profanity. Teacher Ashley Lorshbough defended use of the book and believed it would appeal to teens not normally excited about literature and that it gives an accurate description of life on an Indian reservation. A high school teacher in Brookings had resigned recently when a controversy ensued over one of Alexie's other works, "Ten Little Indians".
