Abstract
Voters in Springfield approved the amendment to the city charter, sponsored by the Oregon Citizens Alliance, which prohibits the city from encouraging or promoting homosexuality. Supporters of the measure want to uphold traditional family values and remove “objectionable” books from libraries. The OCA plans to examine library and school materials and challenge books about homosexuality. Corvallis residents defeated a similar measure, but a statewide measure is being promoted for the November general election ballot.
