Abstract
Newport Public Library director Jane Appling elucidates the library's policies regarding selection and organization of materials in response to Cheyne and Mary Jo Turner's objections to two videos borrowed by their teenage son. Ms. Appling supports the rights of parents in guiding their children to select materials appropriate for them. The library had adopted a "Bill of Rights" which emphasizes its role as a provider rather than restrictor of materials.
