The Baldwin book ban

20 April 1989

Rumors of "If Beale Street Could Talk" appearing on "the best sex scenes" list circulating among 7th and 8th graders, prompted a review of having a copy in the high school library. A committee of teachers, parents and the school principal recommended restricting access; the school board removed the book. The author expresses concern for censorship.
