Abstract
Local government and business organizations oppose Ballot Measure 9, the controversial anti-homosexual initiative. These groups support intellectual freedom and the ability of libraries to provide information that reflects many viewpoints. The school district voted to oppose the measure because it would require changes to the curriculum based on “one narrow point of view.” The Chamber of Commerce stated its concern that the initiative would damage local economy and create an image of Oregon as being “the national capitol of discrimination and bigotry.”
