Abstract
Even in our modern information society, the censorship of books in libraries and book stores is evident. The American Library Association’s “Banned Book Week” Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 1991 draws attention to books challenged in school and public libraries. Oregon comes close to leading the nation in reports of censorship attempts, due in part to the Oregon State Library’s efficiency in collecting data. A.L.A’s list of book titles that have been banned in the past include the Bible, The Arabian Nights, Blithe Spirit, and Oliver Twist.
