The marginal gingiva forms an unbroken, parabolic curve extending from near the contact point on one side of the tooth to that on the other side, where it joins the adjacent marginal gingiva to form the sharp point of the interdental papilla. The marginal gingiva is generally quite thin at the edge, but it may become somewhat heavier through hard brushing, as shown in the upper central incisors.
