Mechanical Egg

1 January 1982

Copper, brass, steel, sterling silver, fur, moonstone, modified nuts and bolts

5" x 3" x 3"

This piece has a round bottom to encourage the viewer to pick up and handle it. When the moonstone is pressed, it releases an internal spring, which causes the top of the egg to suddenly and forcefully separate slightly from the bottom part. This causes the egg to jump. The viewer involuntarily catches the egg and gets poked for his trouble. Moral: Acting without thinking can hurt!
